Grip strips vs bath mats vs rugs
These three get shopped as one product, and they are three. Strips bond to the tub floor and stay there. A mat covers the tub floor and comes out to dry. A rug lives outside the tub and catches wet feet on smooth flooring. Most bathrooms want two of the three; which two depends on one question — does the tub floor have texture moulded in, or is it smooth?

The rule everyone learns the wet way
Suction mats and textured tub floors do not mix — the same physics that kills suction grab bars on textured tile kills a mat's hundred small cups on a textured floor. Run a palm across the tub bottom: if you feel moulded texture, the mat slides, and strips are your answer. If it's smooth and slick, either works, and the mat wins on easy cleaning.
The consumable nobody budgets
Strips are the one item on this site that wears out on a schedule: edges lift, grip fades, and a half-peeled strip is its own trip hazard. Check them monthly with a fingernail at the corners; replace the set when any edge catches. A 24-pack covers a tub twice over, which is the honest way of saying: buy once, apply half, keep half.
